Chrysler Group: Revv'd Up in the Motor City

There are a number of consistent themes since Chrysler Group LLC was formed through the alliance with FIAT Group in 2009. Improving manufacturing and vehicle quality, and offering vehicles that are as unique as our customers are two of them.

Another is our clear commitment to the City of Detroit.

The latest example is this morning s announcement of moving about 70 people into the former Dime Building in Detroit. Now called Chrysler House, we ll occupy the top two floors and about 33,000 square feet of space in the 23-story building.

By late summer, our Great Lakes Business Center will be in the Chrysler House, and several corporate functions will have use of the space, including an office and conference area for CEO Sergio Marchionne. The Chrysler House is owned by Rock Ventures LLC, the umbrella entity formed to provide operational coordination, guidance and integration of Detroit businessman Dan Gilbert s portfolio of companies, investments and real estate.

Want more proof about our commitment to the City of Detroit?

What about the Born of Fire/Imported from Detroit video?

And, then there s JNAP. Since opening in 1991, the Jefferson North Assembly Plant has rolled out Jeep Grand Cherokees, Commanders and Dodge Durangos. Today, JNAP employs nearly 2,900 people with another 1,100 more to be added by the first quarter of 2013.

How about our Mack Avenue Engine Complex I and II? The Mack complex turned out its first engine in 2000, and today employs about 180 people at the two locations.

Don t forget about Conner! This year, the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant will once again  hand-build SRT Vipers. CAAP will employ about 150 people once production is up and running. See this video for a look inside the home of the SRT Viper.

With JNAP and CAAP, Chrysler is the only automaker with two manufacturing operations within  Detroit city limits.

There s also the Jeep brands partnership with the Jalen Rose Academy, 15000 Trojan St.

So, while our HQ may be in Auburn Hills and we have assembly, other manufacturing operations and offices throughout North America and around the world, our soul will always be in Detroit.

A computer-generated image of the new signage for the new Chrysler House in Downtown Detroit. For the first time in its history the Chrysler Group, will have an office presence in downtown Detroit. As part of the plan, Chrysler Group will rename the historic Dime Building Chrysler House and will move its Great Lakes Business Center and several corporate functions into the top two floors of the 23-story building.
